ECS KN1 SLI Extreme (1.0A)

Test Setup/Benchmarks

The motherboard was tested with both application and gaming benchmarks.  For this test we used the Ati Radeon X800 GTO in all test games to compare how the motherboard would perform in different environments.  We tested the components with No AA/AF and 4AA/8AF in a variety of games.

Disclaimer: The following benchmark numbers are the values that I obtained when I ran the tests on my machine. If you have any questions or comments about how they were obtained, please contact me. I’d be glad to re-run and retest any benchmarks that you think may be a bit inaccurate. The benchmarks were run in order to provide a general idea of the performance of the card. The results you obtain may be slightly different than mine.

3DMark2003

3DMark®03 is the latest version of the highly favored 3DMark series. Performing well on this test gives us a general idea on how the computer would perform in today's games.  3DMark03 is one of the most popular benchmarking tools and is now one of the industry's standard benchmark tool. The high quality game tests, image quality tests, sound tests and others give you an extremely accurate overview of your system’s current gaming performance.  We can see when the settings were set to no AA/AF, the computer performed better at higher resolutions and performed completely opposite with the 4AA/8AF settings.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Need for Speed is among the most popular arcade racing franchises for a reason.  NFS: Most Wanted has high quality models which requires a pretty good setup in order to play at full settings with good frame rates.  We can see no change when changing between No AA/AF and 4AA/8AF.

Sisoft Sandra 2005

Sisoft Sandra 2005 is a benchmarking tool that tries to go beyond other utilities to show you more of what is really going on under the hood.  This benchmarking utility tries to draw comparisons at both a high- and low-level in a single product.  Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system as well as the individual components.  Sandra does this by listing the ALU and FPU.  The ALU is an internal part of the processor which is used for all mathematical and logical operations.  The FPU is designed to handle any floating point calculations.  Both of these are designed to test the speed of the processor capabilities.

Conclusion

The ECS KN1 SLI Extreme was impressive.  The motherboard has a good bundle - it's designed to be cheap but has a good set of features.  The ECS KN1 SLI Extreme is a good value because although the company tries to cut the motherboard down in price, performance and features do not go down as well, but still remains pretty fast along with long lasting reliability.  Therefore, I would recommend this board for the those computer enthusiasts who like to customize their board at a cheap price.
