Zaon MRX Portable Collision Avoidance System

One of the greatest safety advances of the last few decades in aviation must be the Collision Avoidance Systems installed in commercial airliners. They enable pilots to see who else is flying in their airspace so that they can avoid running into one another. This safety option is now available to all aircraft, including private airplanes, and today we will be reviewing the smallest and most affordable of these portable units, the Zaon MRX Portable Collision Avoidance System. Zaon XRX Portable Collision Avoidance System

We have reviewed a number of Portable Collision Avoidance Systems (PCAS) from Zaon (formerly marketed under the SureCheck brand. See here to read about the TrafficScope Micro and here to check on the VRX). We had the opportunity to flight test their latest model in traffic detection systems which not only includes information on relative altitude and range but also in which direction to look for traffic, in other words quadrant bearing. The ZaonFlight XRX is a huge improvement over their previous top model and well worth the investment in making your skies safer. Have a look at why we think so. More...

Transplant Emtac S3 Bluetooth GPS receiver

For some reason our reviews of GPS receivers seem to be the more popular of our write-ups.
The very first GPS Bluetooth receiver we ever reviewed was the daddy of them all: the venerable Emtac Crux (reviewed here on our sister site nearly two years ago). Now, the new Emtac S3 Bluetooth GPS receiver from Transplant with the incredible SiRFstarIII chip set makes for interesting comparison with the original trend setter. Let's have a look at how far we have come in the past two years with this technology. More...

Navman iCN 510

Many people have heard of the term GPS, or Global Positioning System, but are not fully informed in what it has to offer.  Many people have the misconception that it requires dishing out money to use it, but in actuality, GPS is a free service which requires no subscription of any sort or any extra money.  GPS involves communicating with the existing satellites in orbit in order to determine the exact position depending where you are.  By knowing exactly where you are, this immediately makes it a suitable application when going on those long hiking trips or just exploring some place you've never been to.  When combined with powerful software, GPS can provide more uses such as navigating from one place to another. Rikaline Bluetooth GPS 6033

Hard on the heels of our most recent Bluetooth GPS review, the f-tech Solar 7 with its integrated solar panel, we now review the latest Bluetooth reincarnation from Rikaline, the GPS6033. First impressions: extremely compact, handsome, rock steady on dashboards and fully complete with two chargers. Naturally, the 6033 has the new SiRF chipset and has a very decent battery life. Probably the best feature is the price: around the 150US mark. Time to check out the diminutive 6033 to see how it performs in the air and on the road.  More...

f-tech Solar 7 Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Just recently we reviewed the TS Micro from SureCheck, the sub-$300 sibling of the much more capable VRX. It was love at first sight with that miniscule radar detector of the skies but when it comes to noticing traffic even before you can see it, nothing beats the VRX: it displays much more information and is still affordable. If you’re in the market for a mini-TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) here’s one that you can give pride-of-place in your cockpit panel. Let’s dissect the features of the SureCheck VRX. Rikaline GPS-6051 Marine Receiver

We have reviewed a number of Rikaline GPS receivers over the years and tested them out on our aerial platform, a Cessna Centurion. They’ve always performed well and came through our tests with flying colours, as they say… The latest Rikaline product caters to a different group of navigators: those plying the watery waves. The Rikaline GPS-6051 Marine receiver is housed in a white, spherical, waterproof module that houses the antenna and receiver. More...
