Heads up gamers! Do you lose track of time when you are in a gaming session? It seems 1000 gaming respondents put their hand up in August 2024.

Research conducted by Pure Profile unveils over half of Aussies (57%) will game for up to 10+ hours without a single break, so KitKat has partnered with leading Aussie gamers to give away limited edition KitKats for those who break.

Gamers admitted losing their focus (49%), losing the game (37%), and being part of a team (14%) were the top reasons they don’t break. However, research shows that having a break mid-game can help boost performance, improve focus and productivity (45%), and help gamers feel less tired (36%).

KitKat for Gamers

For this reason KitKat has collaborated with popular gaming streamers, such as Loserfruit, to interrupt streams and incentivise breaks with limited-edition prizes.

On Sunday 18 August 2024 Loserfruit (aka Kathleen Belsten) and KitKat surprised Twitch viewers when playing the latest Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 4 with an incentivised break. Loserfruit took a break from her stream, revealing the KitKat Break Chair and QR code. When scanned, a timed break was prompted and upon return, streamers could win a free limited-edition customised Loserfruit KitKat.

Influential gamer Loserfruit said “Timing is everything when it comes to gaming. Break too early, and you could lose the game, wait too long, and before you know it, you’ve spent hours in front of a screen fatigued, not playing your best.

To protect my well-being while gaming, I break when queuing and waiting for the next round to begin. This gives me enough time to refresh and have a quick snack before getting stuck back into the game.

Nestlé Head of Marketing Confectionery Melanie Chen said “KitKat believes in taking ‘breaks’ and we’re on a mission to help Aussies stay on top of their game(-ing). The KitKat Break Chair is a disruptive reminder to have a break. We’ve been delighted to see the positive response to Loserfruit’s stream last night, with the exclusive prizes incentivising more breaks.
