Another product leading the Qi2 charge at Belkin is the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand with Qi2 15W.
I have just come off reviewing the 3-in-1 brethen from Belkin. From an aesthetics point of view, the Convertible is polar opposite. Whereas the 3-in-1 is large (in comparison), proudly ready to display all your gadgets in all the glory whilst sipping on power, the Convertible comes out of the box like one of those par-baked dinner rolls from Woolies.
First Impressions
At first blush, the Convertible is a palm sized puck in it’s stowed away state.
A USB-C port is around the back for power in, which is a departure from the 3-in-1 and it’s fixed cable.
Belkin has included a colour matched cable and a 20W wall charger to go with the unit itself.
The top part of the device can be pulled up to convert the unit from a pad mode to a stand mode, hence the “Convertible” in the name.
In Use
The Convertible is a Qi2 certified device and rated to deliver power at up to 15W.
For fully compatible devices, you will have to look over in the fruit camp and their line up. Over on the robot overlord side, you can gain MagSafe / Qi2 magnetic compatibility with compatible cases. For example with my Pixel 8 Pro, I have a Mous case which adds this capability to my phone.
Just like the 3-in-1, the magnetic attachment is strong. I can hold the Convertible upside down and my phone will remain attached. The better part is that I haven’t found my phone on the floor in the morning because my cats have knocked it off the stand.
With a tilt range from 0-70° for the stand angle, or 0-75° for the pad, it is easy to adjust the Convertible to a position that suits me whether it is at my desk or next to my bed.
There are no issues with which orientation you put your phone on. The magnets will guide the phone into place for optimal position for charging. This is particularly handy when I would just plonk my phone on whichever way without looking when I go to sleep. I feel the magnets engage and I am done.
For Apple users, the Convertible supports StandBy mode. For the heathens like me in the other camp, there is no built in functionality to match. But as Apple marketed back in 2009 said “there is an app for that” and for me it’s Standby Mode Pro.
Gripes
With full understanding of limitations, I still lament that there isn’t a spare USB port to plug in a cable to charge other devices.
Conclusions
The Convertible is a travel friendly charging stand that offers more than what meets the eye.
Excluding the cable, the Convertible is made of eco-friendly post-consumer recycled materials and 100% plastic-free packaging. Belkin also offers a Connected Equipment Warranty (CEW) for up to $2,500 (conditions apply).
The Belkin Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand with Qi2 15W has a RRP of $99.95. Whilst there are limited compatible phones out there, it’s worth a look to future proof your purchases.
DRN would like to thank Belkin for providing the review unit.
